School-age children residing in West Plano are served by two school districts, Plano Independent School District (PISD) and Lewisville Independent School District (LISD). Most of West Plano is served by PISD, but areas of Kings Gate, Kings Ridge, Prestonwood and Shoal Creek are under LISD’s jurisdiction.

Plano is often looked in terms of East Plano and West Plano, with the dividing line being the Central Expressway. The western side, home to approximately 91,000 residents, is characterized by modern subdivisions and golf course communities with gorgeous, expansive homes. Some of the best-known neighborhoods are Cypress Point, Gleneagles, Kings Gate, Kings Ridge, Lake Side on Preston, Prestonwood, Shoal Creek, and Willow Bend. All of these neighborhoods have an assortment of amenities, including greenbelts, open spaces and neighborhood lakes. Gleneagles, Lake Side on Preston, Prestonwood, Shoal Creek, and Willow Bend have country clubs; while Cypress Point, Gleneagles, Kings Gate and Willow Bend have gated neighborhoods.
