Plano, Texas, has a loyal resident base that enjoys a strong economy, diverse housing options, and excellent public services and recreational facilities. According to city management, more than 72% of residents surveyed in February of 2004 ranked their city as “The best, or one of the best places to live,” in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Plano is often looked in terms of East Plano and West Plano, with the dividing line being Central Expressway. The western side, home to 91,000 residents, is characterized by modern subdivisions and golf course communities with gorgeous, expansive homes. Some of the best-known neighborhoods are Cypress Point, Gleneagles, Kings Gate, Kings Ridge, Lake Side on Preston, Prestonwood, Shoal Creek and Willow Bend. All of these have an assortment of amenities, including greenbelts, open spaces and neighborhood lakes. Gleneagles, Lake Side on Preston, Prestonwood, Shoal Creek and Willow Bend have country clubs; while Cypress Point, Gleneagles, Kings Gate and Willow Bend have gated neighborhoods. The largest of these communities is Willow Bend, which contains more than 1,700 homes. Then Prestonwood, which will have about 800 homes upon completion, Lake Side on Preston will have 500 and Gleneagles currently has about 300. School-age children residing in West Plano are served by two school districts, Plano Independent School District (PISD) and Lewisville Independent School District (LISD). Most of West Plano is served by PISD, but areas of Kings Gate, Kings Ridge, Prestonwood and Shoal Creek are under LISD’s jurisdiction.
